Soul mates ❤️ when my sister went on maternity leave just over 4 years ago, I was on pugternity! I’d taken a bit of time off work (one of the advantages of being freelance) to settle in our new puppy. My niece and Rupert spent A LOT of time together when they were first born and the bond they have from that is deep. He’ll sit next to her and chill with her a lot more than any other child (including my own) and it’s so lovely to see. Izzy and I are both firm believers that dogs can teach kids so many things, and growing up with an animals is something we’re both so glad we’ve been able to give our children from a young age. Patience, it’s something I have always lacked, but for some reason (maybe motherly instinct) with Sophia I have always had a lot of patience with her. I try to communicate and be calm with her and explain why she can’t do things that may be dangerous etc. But recently, it has been more than challenging and I have felt my patience being tested (this may be something to do with the terrible twos!) If she wants something or wants to do something and can’t she pulls a huge tantrum. A recent example of this is at @TumbleTotshq where she wouldn’t wait for the younger kids to have their turn on certain apparatus and would kick off because she wanted to go. ⠀ It may seem wrong to compare a dog to a toddler but dogs are so good at learning patience and waiting that this is something that could be passed on to children. A way to learn patience at home. An Instagram story by @birthbyrey inspired me about this by allowing them to sit down at a table and wait for their snacks, they know they are getting something they want but they have to wait patiently. It seems simple but we don’t think of these things in the craziness of everyday life and these everyday steps will help encouraging patience. Swipe to see reaction once they received their snack. A lady stopped me in the pet shop the other day and told me that having one pug is like having a child, they are needy, will act more like a sibling to your children and will require your attention like your children. However, have more than one pug and this changes, they become ‘the dogs’ and act more like a pack, they entertain each other and they often need less physical attention from you. I have no idea if this is true, but what I do know is that Rupert LOVES to be close to me, he does act like he’s a ‘sibling’ to Arthur, is this just his personality? or is this because he’s an only dog?
